Foil? Say WHAT???

Hello & Happy Monday Everyone!
How was your weekend?
Mine was exhausting...
I decided to do some deep cleaning in my house! 😂
Talk about CRAZY!! I mean.... Who does that?
Who REALLY wants to clean? Usually... NOT ME!
But, it's clean and I moved furniture around as well...
I just get in one of those weird moods.... and it happens...
And... I can't stop, til it's ALL done! UGH!

So, it's all done for now... until I decide to take
on another task.... which may be soon!
I need HELP! I get time off, and I'm Cleaning???
Who Flippin' does that?? Apparently this Chick! 😋

Any who... enough about my cleaning craze...

I decided to get my Mom Foil for her Birthday this year...
A friend Gave me the Anna Griffin Minc thingy...
Which I gave to her along with a bunch of
Gina K Foil mates and lots of fun Foil
colors for her to play with...
Of course... Since I got them for her... I decided to
get them for ME too! I just have a Your Story laminator,
so I thought I would just try mine with that... 😁

I have to say... I'm not all that impressed with it...
Not even with her little Minc machine... the foiling
looks soooo easy in videos... but I found things were
spotty when foiling... Which is disappointing.... 😞

Here's a look at my first Foiled Card --

FYI - It's really HARD to take a picture of a foiled card!

But as you can see in the photo.... there are black areas
which should be foiled but are not... This was NOT the first
card I did.... I did several of them and they all had a similar
look... This card will be given to a Teacher at school....
I'm sure she will love the pretty colors...

Here is another shot of it.... I used ICraft Deco Foil (Amethyst
Water color) & Minc (Silver) foil -
I used the Negative floral design on a piece of solid Black Laser
printed Cardstock with the Amethyst color -
I put it through the laminator and peeled it off --
then I added the silver foil over it and put it through the
laminator a second time... To get the 2 color combo
you see in the floral design....
Both the Floral design & Stripes are from the Gina K Foil Mates

** Supplies Used on my Card **

Cardstock - Recollections, Bazzill, Anna Griffin Black Laser CS
Sparkle Shimmer Spritz on the Word Die
Nuvo Glitter Drops - Midnight Sky
"Wishes" Word Die - Pink & Main
Purple Ribbon - My Stash
Rectangle Stitched Die - My Favorite Things
Gina K Foil Mates - Stars & Stripes & Elegant Florals
Tools/Adhesives - Big Shot, Your Story Laminator,
Glossy Accents, Stick It, ThermOweb, ATG, Small Zots

Now.. just to let you know... we tried different heat settings
using the Minc and the results were pretty much
the same as mine with the laminator... We tried using
shims as well... tried it with parchment paper,
regular paper, the plastic thing that came with it too
Sooo....
If any of you use foil often.. PLEASE, feel free to
shoot me a message on any tips I might not have tried...
I will continue to play with this foil... because... I bought
a bunch of it! 😂 And I want to try it with adhesive next!
Any ideas are always helpful!

Thanks for stopping by!!!
Have a FANTASTIC Day!!!

Theresa

It does feel so good after you do deep cleaning. I love to move my furniture around too. It is like getting a new room. You card is beatiful. Love the colors and layout of the card. I know the teacher will love it. I purchsed the MINC back in Dec. of 2015. I played around with it a lot the day it came in. Not since. But need to get it back out and use it more. I did find that the foil did better on some card stock than others. The card stock I got the best result and a very smooth look was the Neenah Exact Index, 110 lb I get from Amazon. Some card stock I tried left a very ruff and unfinshed look. Looking forward to seeing more foied projects from you in the future. Would look beautiful on some of your awesome Christmas cards.

Have a creative day.

OK so if you get any great advice will you share!! I have tried a few times myself and they all come out spotty. I tried 2 different machines myself. Not happy with the results!

Wow, it looks stunning, Theresa!! I wouldn't have been able to tell there were any problems with the foil...it looks so beautiful!! I haven't tried foil yet and I may not if it's this much trouble. I hope someone has tips that help you. And I get in cleaning crazes, too!! I haven't had one in a while with my craft room and it's in desperate need of a major clean!! Have a great day!! Big hugs :)

Hi Theresa....just a few tips...try using a lint free cloth to "dust off" the item before foiling. Also add a layer of cardstock under the item before sending through your laminator. That will help "press" the items up closer to the heat. And do be sure the laminator is nice and HOT. And we agree...trying to photograph foil can be very tricky! Nice job!!!

Very pretty card! I give you an A+ for trying out a fun new technique. I have yet to try foiling so I'm of no help! And so awesome of you to do some deep cleaning, we all need to take the time to do that! Hope you are enjoying your time off work!

Your cards look amazing! I have not tried foiling, but I can imagine it would be frustrating to have it not work the way you were hoping. Hope you get it figured out, but I think they turned out beautifully!

Good for you for trying out foiling! I haven't done so but I think it would be so elegant for wedding and anniversary cards especially. I wish it would have gone smoother for you. I also have a YourStory so if you ever find out the perfect recipe to foiling, let me know so I can give it a whirl!
As for the cleaning thing....I recently HAD to do the same thing. We had our ductwork cleaned and there was dust absolutely everywhere in the house. It was nasty! I scrubbed and scrubbed and dusted and vacuumed and then some! I still haven't gotten finished with a thorough cleaning from that episode and we will never have our ductwork cleaned again of I can help it. It was way too much work afterwards.

Hey sweetie! This card turned out beautiful! Yes it's got a few little nicks here and there that the foil didn't quite catch but it's handmade!! It is not supposed to be perfect! Now with that being said, great job! I use a $20 laminator and I have a laser printer that I use and when i foil using them together, it turns out beautifully! Maybe you should try to invest in a good laser printer if you don't own one.. they are inexpensive... and use that with your laminator. :)

And hey next time you get into a cleaning mood, come clean my home please!!!! LOL
Hugs,
Jo

I love when the house is clean, but who loves to clean? :) I'm sure the fact that you're off for the summer has something to do with it. I've been doing yard work for that very reason!! :)

Pretty card, Theresa!!

Hi Theresa,
You might have not gotten the look you wNtedfrom the foul. But I think it is simply beautiful and elegant and I know that the teacher that receives this card will be tickled pink. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I think it's pretty cool... the black areas almost give it a distressed look... and because as always I'm backwards, I already saw there is a tip so I can't wait to see how that turns out!
